“Scramble” Intersections Are Statistically Safer Than Traditional Intersections In Which Pedestrians Cross With Traffic

The “Scramble” style intersections, where pedestrians can cross any direction including diagonally are possibly because of an extra cycle phase where all vehicles are under red light at the same time for people to move in the direction of their choice, during that phase. Makes sense, doesn’t it? It also can make for an interesting picture. Several intersections in Old Town Pasadena provide for this. I’ve also seen them in Hollywood, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, there seem to be more of them all the time. I posted a lighter picture and darker one so you could enjoy it even more!

Note:  The matching vibrant clothing colors to the sunset and even a small neon window light along the sidewalk near the right edge. These nuances really increase my enjoyment of this image.
